Baccarat Rules
The Object of the Game
The object is to correctly predict which of the two hands
(Player or Banker) will have a point value closest to 9.
How to Play the Game
The Bets
Bets are placed on the baccarat table in one or more of the
three rectangles immediately in front of you. The rectangle
closest to you is for the Player hand. The rectangle next
closest to you is for the Banker hand. The rectangle furthest
away from you is for a tie.
Each bet must be made in accordance with the minimum and maximum
table limits, which vary from table to table. Players must place
and confirm their bets before the end of the betting period,
which ends when the croupier announces "No more bets."
The Play
The croupier initially deals four cards. The first and third
cards are dealt to the Player portion of the table immediately
in front of the croupier; the second and fourth cards are dealt
to the Banker portion of the table immediately in front of the
croupier. The cards are dealt face up.
Once the initial four cards are dealt, the two hands are
evaluated according to their relative counts. Certain counts
will require the croupier to deal a third card to the Player
hand and/or to the Banker hand.
After all cards have been dealt, the hand which has a point
value closest to 9 is the winner.
The Cards
Face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) and Tens are worth 0,
while Aces are worth 1. All other cards are counted at face
value. The point value of each hand is the last digit of the sum
of the cards. For example, a hand of Jack, 4, and 9 has a point
value of 3 (since 0 + 4 + 9 = 13).
Rules for Taking a Third Card
Under certain circumstances, a third card is dealt to the Player
hand and/or to the Banker hand.
Player
When the Player's first two cards total 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, and
the Banker hand has a point value of 7 or less, the Player gets
a third card. Otherwise, the Player does not get a third card.
Banker
Whether the Banker gets a third card depends on what the value
of the Player's third card (if any) is.
If the Player does not get a third card, and the Player hand has
a point value of 7 or less, and the Banker's first two cards
total 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, then the Banker gets a third card.
If the Player does get a third card, then the Banker gets a
third card when:
the Banker's first two cards total 0, 1, or 2; or
the Banker's first two cards total 3 and the Player's third card
is not an 8; or
the Banker's first two cards total 4 and the Player's third card
is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7; or
the Banker's first two cards total 5 and the Player's third card
is 4, 5, 6, or 7; or
the Banker's first two cards total 6 and the Player's third card
is 6 or 7.
Payouts
If the Player has a point value closer to 9 then a bet on the
Player pays off at one to one. If the Banker has a point value
closer to 9 then a bet on the Banker pays off at 0.95 to one. If
the Player and Banker point values are equal, a bet on Tie pays
at eight to one and a bet on Player or Banker pushes. In all
other cases, the bet is lost.
